Ekoi / Ejagham janus faced headcrest with 6 curls, Nigeria
29.5" tall x 28" wide x 20" deep
wood, animal skin, pigment, basketry

$275 - To inquire about this object, send an email to Rand@DiscoverAfricanArt.com with a subject line of "Ekoi headdress with curls".

It is a nice, large and expressive example that makes a statement in any room you'd put it in. All of the curls are removable and fit in the head
very nicely. It leans slightly to one side, as is evident in the photos,  but it can be propped up to even it out if desired.

In their traditional context, objects like this were used in masquerade performances that took place at the initiation or funerals of the associations
that owned them, and also at periodic rites connected with agriculture.

Despite its appearance, I believe this object was made specifically for the collecting market.
