Baule ram mask, Ivory Coast 13" from top of head to the mouth, 12" wide wood, pigment
In their traditional context, masks like this were used in various public performances by the Baule people. Despite it's appearance, this mask shows no real signs of age or use and it is my opinion that it was made specifically for the collecting market.
